As the Civil War would engulf most of the El Salvador, many individuals would flee to the United States in order to find a new start in America and to support there families back home. As many arrived in Salvadoran arrived to the United States they would find themselves being singled out and harrassed by gangs. In order to protect themselves Salvadoran would form there own gangs that consisted of there other Salvadorans as they had somethings in common, they were from the same country, came from the same pueblos and were dealing with harassment. As they would begin to absorb American gang culture, they would begin to form there own gang identity.
